Sivalogam (8x10 Giclée Print)
Medium
Archival quality Giclée print on Hahnemühle fine art paper.
About this work
In this piece, Shiva and Parvati are seen in a deep psychedelic state, meditating as the cosmic clock keeps ticking. The backdrop of this painting is inspired by fractal patterns commonly seen across the walls, ceilings, pillars of Shaivite temples of Tamil Nadu. Both Shiva and Parvati are seen wearing selvedge denim which has picked some great fades while they’ve been seated.
Growing up in Tamil Nadu and visiting many ancient temples across the region, there was no escaping the beautiful fractal patterns carved into the walls, ceilings, pillars (and everywhere else). Many of these temples have been repainted over the years and I’ve found it to be an explosion of colors. Now, living in Brooklyn, the incredible urban art landscape of this city is also an explosion of color and patterns in its own right. This piece is an experiment towards seeing what these two styles would look like when they are juxtaposed.
