About this work

Bhishma, the grand old man and the only person who lived through the entire duration of Mahabharata epic led a poetically tragic life. Despite being the rightful heir to the throne of Hastinapura, he instead sacrificed his right to a throne and his right to a wife and kids out of devotion to his father. His unwavering loyalty to the throne led him to reluctantly execute an order from his stepmother to kidnap a princess and her sisters, to be wed to his half-brother, Vichitravirya. Many years later, the reincarnation of this princess shot him with hundreds of arrows during the Kurukshetra war. Following this, he was then forced to lay on that bed of arrows in the battlefield for 51 nights as the Earth wasn't yet willing to accept him, until he finally died on the auspicious day of Uttarayana.
